Authorise highly accomplished or lead teacher accreditation
NSW teachers applying for Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher Accreditation must develop a comprehensive application which is submitted to their Teacher Accreditation Authority (Highly Accomplished/Lead (TAA A/L). The TAA A/L reviews submissions and makes the final accreditation decision, following advice from the Moderating and Consistency Committee (MCC).
Who undertakes the TAA (A/L) role for my school?
The following are authorised in this role:
- Department of Education schools - the Executive Director
- Catholic systemic schools - the Executive Director or Director of your Diocese
- Seventh-Day Adventist Schools (greater Sydney) Ltd - the Director/Company Secretary
- Association of Independent Schools NSW - the Executive Director
What steps does the TAA (A/L) need to follow?
- Log in to your online account to review the teacher’s submission
- You may provide the candidate with feedback with regard to the quality of the submission or advise that the submission is amended or strengthened in relation to the Standard Descriptors (as per the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Any suggested changes or amendments should be incorporated and the application resubmitted within three months.
- Following a process of internal quality assurance, the TAA (A/L) makes a recommendation. The recommendation and submission go to the Moderating and Consistency Committee (MCC), a cross-sectoral committee convened by BOSTES of teachers, principals and TAA representatives. The role of this Committee is to consider submissions from all TAAs (A/L) to support consistent accreditation decisions.

Advice based on analysis of more than 100 submissions, is available for TAAs (A/L) authorising higher level accreditation.
- The TAA (A/L) considers the Committee’s advice and makes the final accreditation decision. The TAA (A/L) informs the candidate and BOSTES of their decision.
- The TAA (A/L) may choose not to take the advice of the Committee. If this is the case, then the TAA (A/L) needs to provide a written response to the Committee outlining the reasons for their decision.
- TAAs (A/L) need to have an internal review process that can be implemented if a candidate requests a review of a decision not to accredit.
